Abuse of Power? or lack of interest?

OK, It’s not like I expected anything different.

I haven’t been able to find a constitutional reference to ‘Executive Orders’ anywhere in the constitution. Got a clue???? Send me the reference.

President-Elect Obama is planning to use EO’s to make changes without congressional approval, even a congress that is totally blinded by his cult (messianic) status. Obama spokesman (i.e. toadie) John Podesta boasted…. “There’s a lot that the president can do using his executive authority without waiting for congressional action, and I think we’ll see the president do that,” Podesta said. “I think that he feels like he has a real mandate for change. We need to get off the course that the Bush administration has set.”

Someone, somehow needs to stop the madness. Presidents, ALL OF THEM, have used this questionable practice to force their agenda on the people without an actual law being passed in Congress.
U.S. Presidents have issued executive orders since 1789. Although there is no Constitutional provision or statute that explicitly permits executive orders, there is a vague grant of “executive power” given in Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution and the statement “take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed” in Article II, Section 3.

Until the early 1900s, executive orders went mostly unannounced and undocumented, seen only by the agencies to which they were directed. However, the Department of State instituted a numbering scheme for executive orders in 1907, starting retroactively with an order issued on October 20, 1862, by President Abraham Lincoln. That order became necessary when Union forces captured New Orleans; Lincoln issued the order to establish military courts in Louisiana. Today, only National Security Directives are kept from the public.

Until the 1950s, there were no rules or guidelines outlining what the president could or could not do through an executive order. However, the Supreme Court ruled in Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co. v. Sawyer, 343 US 579 (1952) that Executive Order 10340 from President Harry S. Truman placing all steel mills in the country under federal control was invalid because it attempted to make law, rather than clarify or act to further a law put forth by the Congress or the Constitution. Presidents since this decision have generally been careful to cite which specific laws they are acting under when issuing new executive orders.

Wars have been fought upon executive order, including the 1999 Kosovo War during Bill Clinton’s second term in office. However, all such wars have had authorizing resolutions from Congress. The extent to which the president may exercise military power independently of Congress and the scope of the War Powers Resolution remain unresolved constitutional issues, although all Presidents since its passage have complied with the terms of the Resolution while maintaining that they are not constitutionally required to do so.

EO’s have been touted as necessary to the common good, the benefit of the country, survival of the country, national security, inter-state commerce, the economy, the war on drugs, the war on poverty, the war on war, the war on pollution, the war on war on pollution, the war on brains……….. whatever!!!!

Why do WE THE PEOPLE still tolerate this practice? Why are we allowing Presidents to force their whims on our society? Have any of these wars/policies actually been a help or improvement to our society? Really, if the policy is that great, make it a REAL law, debated and passed by Congress. (NOT that I think Congress has our best interests in mind most of the time, just THEIR best interest)

President -Elect Obama is NOT the only culprit in this fiasco, he is just the current focus. If I had started this blog and web campaign earlier I would have been able to focus on President Kennedy’s/Johnson’s/ Nixon’s/Ford’s/Carter’s/Reagan’s/Bush’s(41) /Clinton’s/Bush’s(43) and now President-Elect Obama’s (projected) use/abuse of the EO also. I will do so from this point forward! EO’s are a literal slap in the face to every US Citizen!!!

Which is worse………….
1 – An EO to go to war in a foreign country
2 – An EO to strip US citizens of their rights/freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution

Come on, you know you can say it. It may make your mouth hurt, your jaw tremble, your heart palpitate.
Stand up, (breath, you need the oxygen), take a stand, make a decision, get off the damn fence!!!!!

If the founding fathers wanted a monarch, a king or queen, they wouldn’t have entrusted us with a vote!
Contact your representatives/senators and tell them your opinion. If they don’t listen, VOTE THEM OUT OF OFFICE!!!
That is the real power of The People………. The VOTE!!!
Unfortunately most politicians know that re-election is almost a lock. Even if they commit a Felony, they will probably get re-elected.
HUH?????? THROW THE BUMS OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If your elected representative isn’t interested in your opinion, doesn’t listen to your comments, doesn’t hold up your values………. get one that does!!
(I’ll go in to term limits in the future)

Make your voice heard! 122,891,617 votes cast for the 2 major parties. Obama 65445394 McCain 57446223
Population of the U.S.A. 305,618,631 as of 04:49 GMT (EST+5) Nov 10, 2008
40.2% of the population cared enough to cast a meaningfull vote

Roughly 60 % of THE PEOPLE didn’t care enough to bother to vote. Didn’t care enough to try!! Didn’t care enough to get off their lazy, ignorant asses and be a part of the future of their country.
Your educated vote counts for almost 3 votes……….. WHAT A COUNTRY!!! And you don’t even have to lie, cheat, be dead, a felon, or a liberal.

If you didn’t vote, DON’T BITCH!!!!!
If you did vote, DON’T WHINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Get off your butt and be more active next time, volunteer, donate, run for office, be a voice screaming from the wilderness!!!!
Whatever it is, get educated, stand for your beliefs and get involved.
Come on, I have lots of liberal friends. we disagree but don’t have to be disagreeable. We are still friends.

Makin’ the best of a bad situation………..
